Yellowstone National Park, the one and only America's first

  • Posted on

Yellowstone National Park is America's first National Park, 1872.

Why pick to stay in Island Park, Idaho and enter the west gate entrance?

West Entrance – Entrance closest to Old Faithful Geyser Basin, Norris Geyser Basin, and Grand Prismatic Spring. LOTS of geysers, paint pots, hot springs, and other thermal features.

  • Upper Geyser Basin- The most popular and number one attraction in Yellowstone is the Upper Geyser Basin. Here you can see a large number of thermal features close to each other, including Old Faithful. It is home to the largest concentration of hot springs in the world and contains about a quarter of all geysers in the world.
  • Gibbon Falls. A beautiful waterfall.
  • Lower, Midway, and Upper Geyser basins.
  • The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
  • Madison Valley. A great place to see wildlife like elk and bison
  • Madison Junction. This is a major intersection in Yellowstone.

The West Gate entrance is not only scenic but can include day trips by dividing each loop up or think of the park as a figure 8 and do each half. You can go North, East or South for your adventure!

Stay in Island Park Lodging to access to small town restaurants that aren't as crowded as West Yellowstone or other towns. Island Park is also known for its year around recreation. Don't hesitate to float the Big Springs River on this trip it will be worth your eyes. Typically Moose and Otters are along the scenic float, and kids are always going to have a great time and are able to paddle this gentle ride!
